Refresh your home with Rymer

Renovating your home is an ideal way to update tired fittings, add more space, or reconfigure it in a way that suits you better. We work on renovation projects of all sizes, from simple kitchen upgrades to new outdoor areas, living spaces, and more.

Learn more about each stage of the renovation process below.

The renovation process

Renovating a space can sometimes pose challenges that differ to that of new builds. A seamless transition between new and old spaces is often an important consideration, and is one that Rymer can help you with. Together with your designer (your own, or we can refer you to one) we’ll tackle these issues as well as other planning documents needed for a renovation.

The first step usually involves some type of demolition to the areas being refreshed. Depending on the extent of the demolition involved, you may need to temporarily relocate while this is being done. However for many projects, it’s possible to remain living at the property throughout the whole renovation process.

For larger renovations, soil testing, site-levelling, and clearing may also need to be undertaken. If your renovation requires any Council permits and approvals, Rymer can work with you to organise these.

After relevant approvals are sourced, the work area will require some sort of preparation. The extent of this varies greatly between renovations: for a simple kitchen refresh, usually nothing further needs to be done! But for more extensive work, such as a new deck or outdoor area, footings, slab drainage, and termite protection may need to be installed.

This stage involves everything from conduit for electrical and plumbing, to internal and external support work, walls, and roofing and guttering. You’ll start to get a better idea of how your space will look, which means you may want to modify some fixtures or finishes. Often it’s possible to make some changes during this stage, and we’re happy to work with you to ensure the space will suit your needs.

Any required windows, doors and remaining walls are installed in the Lockup stage. We organise all the necessary tradespeople for your project, like plumbers, electricians, and cabinet makers. During the lockup stage, these trades are typically finishing the fit out.

Design features like cornices, tiling, cabinets and shelving, reveals and architraves are added in this stage. For renovation projects like kitchens, this is the stage where you’ll really see the space come together as all those lovely new shelves and cupboards are added!

Any remaining plumbing, electrical (including lights and powerpoints) and other fixtures and fittings are also finished.

After all painting, installations, and extra detailing is completed in this stage, the space is effectively ready for you to use!

Finally, you’ll receive a structured information handover package. This package provides useful information for the operations and maintenance phase of your renovated space.

After handover, it’s time to move back into your refreshed space and start enjoying it!

Our raving fans

Mark and the team did a great job on our bathroom, was an old house with some unexpected surprises but everything went really smooth. An urgent job and he fitted us in quickly and super appreciative of that. Mark has an awesome  team and his tiler & plumber in particular are good guys and great trades! We will definitely be repeat customers & highly recommend.

We approached Mark about 2 years ago about a major renovation we had in mind. Since then he has been involved in planning, designing and executing the build. Mark and his team have proven to be a good bet. They are professional, accurate and approachable. All trades have shown to be very well skilled and committed to delivering a quality outcome.

We highly recommend Mark and his team to anyone that is seeking a builder for their project.

Thanks Mark.

Mark and the team built our house deck a couple of years ago. We were designing and building simultaneously, so it required perfect tuning not to delay the schedule. The team was attentive and knowledgeable to find quick and cost-effective solutions. We had a 1yo at the time walking around, and they kept the site safe for us and her to be in the house without feeling unsafe. We felt comfortable talking to Mark or the boys about changes and knew the communication was flowing between them, and they will all offer a solution for us to discuss and decide. Once decided, they moved swiftly. Despite the changes, they delivered on time. 2 years later, we engaged Mark again to complete some minor but challenging renovations at home. They admitted not building a “secret room” before; they did a great job and were very responsive to the complication of building in an old house where things do not fit perfectly.

Thanks, Mark we will be in touch again with new changes
